Chatting with Chris D'Elia

So... I have just started the summer of a lifetime and who do I get to interview? None other than Chris D'Elia. I was super psyched when I got the email. Thanks Myriam! I remember seeing him last year at the Comedy Nest and not only was he a staff favorite, he was also one of the festivals Best of the Fest comedians. Really happy to hear that  he's back this year.

Here's some clips of his genius!

So how did this interview go? Of course me being me and I got all nervous about it. You see, you tell me Maroon 5 or J-Lo are there and I could care less. You give me a comedian and I'm a nervous wreck. Those are my people. I love you guys and girls.  What's the worse part? The recording disappeared from my MP3 and my back up only got half. What's the best part?  Chris is so easy to talk to, it was like having a conversation so I remember it pretty vividly. Not to mention he has a wicked laugh!

When I called, he thought it was Thursday. So much so that he almost convinced me it was Thursday.  Luckily my phone is smart and it told me what day it really was. It was Friday. Hey sometimes, your just too funny to know what day of the week it is. So the first part will be a summary of my first 4 questions. If my memory fails Chris, let me know!

I remember catching you last year at the festival last year. You we're not only a staff favorite but you we're a Best of the Fest. We're you happy to get called back?
What'd you enjoy the most about the festival last year?
Is there anyone or anything specific you look forward to this year?
What's your favorite part about Montreal?

So to sum up what he said was that he loves Montreal for it's beauty, it's culture and the fact that we speak French is fantastic. "The vibe of this city is awesome!" What he looks forward to coming back to Montreal. Yes he loves this city, don't you? He will be doing a podcast here, maybe Adam Carolla's. He was thrilled to come back to the festival this year. Once again because of the city. Montreal is da shit!

So Whitney?  How did the show came to be? Did you know Whitney Cummings beforehand?
Yeah, me and Whitney know each other from stand-up. We've worked together before. She basically wrote the part and now we're best friends. Best friends forever.

So you'll be doing the Joel McHale Gala on July 28th...
I am. What is that, is that going to be taped?
Yes they are and they play the galas on TV during the year.
Oh Ok so yeah that's the TV spot I'm doing.
Hahaha! Well this brings me to the next question. What can the audience look forward to? What should they expect to see?
High energy and me and my stupid comedy. I like dumb silly stuff. I'm not trying to take myself to seriously.

Do you have any TV plans in the future? Podcast, movies?
I'm working on my material for my hour special. I play this character on this new TV show on TBS. In November, I did a set on a show called Mash Up TJ Miller show

Who makes you laugh?
Will Sasso and Bryan Callen make me laugh. Those guys crack me up.
Yeah you guys are ridiculous!
Have you listened to the podcast?
Yes I listened to about 10 of them and I love the fact that they're only 10 minutes.
Yeah it's makes it easier to listen to.
Dom Irrera kills me, Dov Davidoff.
As far as guys that I like watching are Eddy Murphy and Jim Carrey. Ricky Gervais is hilarious.

Thinking back when you started, if you knew then what you know, would you have still done stand-up comedy?
Oh for sure! It's the best idea I've ever had. Definitely. For sure.

Have you had a smoked meat poutine yet?
Have I had poutine?
Yes but specifically a smoked meat poutine
Oh no I've never had it. Wow.
Ok The Main.
Ok I'm gonna have to try it when I get there.
It's da bomb! It's a little heart attack but it's fantastic. You gotta try it!
SMOKED MEAT POUTINE? I will definitely have that.

And that was it! Of course I had to jynx myself and say that it was being recorded. Of course! All in all, it was a great experience and I'll be better come my next interview. Practice makes perfect right?  I was really happy that he remembered me from last year at the Comedy Nest! Yesssssss! I like being remembered. An afro and a huge ass flower in it go a long way!
Thanks Chris and I can't wait to see you this month.
